Olana, a New York State Historic Site, was the home of Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900), a central figure in the Hudson River School of U.S. landscape painters. The property is best known for its magnificent hilltop mansion, visible from the New York State Thruway.
OlanaIn addition to painting landscapes, Church loved to build the real thing. He purchased the 126-acre farm that would become Olana in 1860, then took about half the land out of agricultural production to create a landscaped park.
